Biographical Information

Hiroshi Oikawa was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 3rd round of the 1974 NPB draft, and he stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first two seasons. He had a 5.57 ERA in 24 games in 1977, and he pitched 40 games with a 7.26 ERA in 1978. Okawa struggled again in 1979 as his ERA was 7.88 in 19 relief outings, and the Whales traded him to the Seibu Lions for Hiroshi Ikeda. His ERA was 4.22 in 25 games in 1980, and he didn't reach the big club again before announced his retirement in 1982.
