Biographical Information[edit]

Hiroshi Kaneko played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.

Kaneko signed with the Nagoya Kinko when the Japan Professional Baseball League was founded in 1936. He had a 2.25 ERA in 4 games in spring season, and his ERA was 2.57 in 3 games in fall season. Kaneko then jumped to the Tokyo Senators, and his ERA was 3.27 in 6 games in the 1937 spring season. He slumped to a 6.95 ERA in 8 appearances in fall season, and he was 4-6 with a 3.6 ERA in the 1938 spring season. Kaneko had a 9-9 record with a 3.28 ERA in fall season, and he tied Yoshio Kikuya and Sukesaburo Tsunekawa for 4th in losses.

The Tokyo native went 7-10 with a 3.16 ERA in 1939, and he was 2-6 with a 4.79 ERA in 1940. Kaneko then jumped to the Kurowashi club, and he was 1-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 1941. He was 3-7 with a 2.83 ERA in 1942, and he was also used as a first baseman that season. Kaneko hit .231/.312/.297 in 65 games in '42, and he played 81 games with a .164/.275/.199 batting line as a full-time position player in 1943. He announced his retirement after the 1943 season.

Overall, Kaneko was 27-45 with a 3.46 ERA, struck out 280 and pitched 697 1/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB. He hit .189/.273/.238 with 137 hits as a batter.
