Biographical Information[edit]

Hiromi Tanida played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 13 years.

Tanida signed with the Nagoya Kinko in 1937, but he only got 10 at-bats combined in his first two seasons. He went 11-for-60 in 1950, and he recorded a .243/.286/.331 batting line in 84 games in 1951. Tanida hit .216/.240/.309 in 1952, then he played 94 games with a .225/.286/.341 batting line in 1953. He also crushed the first pinch-hit, sayonara home run, against the Taiyo Shochiku Robins on July 28, 1953. Tanida improved to .292/.324/.415 in 1954, and he batted .279/.308/.400 with 4 homers in 1955. He then went to the Kokutetsu Swallows, and he slumped to .210/.253/.284 in 1956. Tanida was used as the regular battery partner with Masaichi Kaneda, and he hit .193/.260/.284 in 88 games in 1957. He recorded a .208/.269/.281 batting line in 1958. Tanida had a 13-for-77 record in 1959, and he went 14-for-60 in 1960 then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Tanida hit .224/.270/.312 with 339 hits and 22 homers in 13 seasons in NPB.
