Biographical Information[edit]

Hiroki Fukutome was drafted by the Orix BlueWave in the 4th round of the 1993 NPB draft, and he stayed in the minors in his first three seasons. He crushed a homer against Jun Takeshita on September 11, 1997, and he was the 5th player in NPB history to hit a homer in the first pitch of his first at-bat. Fukutome went 2-for-27 that season, and he hit .175/.200/.254 in 57 games in 1998. He only played 9 games in 1999, and he was 1-for-19 in 2000. Fukutome then hit .223/.282/.309 in 2001, and he had a 4-for-18 record in 2002. He was 5-for-20 in 2003, and he announced his retirement in 2005. Fukutome later coached in the Japanese Women's Baseball League. He coached the Japanese women's national team to titles in the 2023 Women's Baseball Asian Cup and 2023-2024 Women's Baseball World Cup.

Overall, Fukutome hit .182/.226/.275 with 49 hits in 8 seasons in NPB.
