Biographical Information[edit]

Hiroaki Takeuchi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Takeuchi was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the first round of the 1971 NPB draft. He went 5-4 with a 4.32 ERA in his first season, then he had a 6-13 record with a 3.58 ERA in 1973. Takeuchi was 6th in losses in the Central League that season, tied with Yutaka Enatsu and Kazumi Takahashi. He was 5-7 with a 5.53 ERA in 1974, and he led the league in balks and wild pitches. Takeuchi's ERA rose to 5.78 in 27 games in 1975, and he only pitched 5 games combined in the next two seasons due to injuries. He recorded a 2.12 ERA in 15 appearances in 1978, then he notched 3 saves with a 4.72 ERA in 30 relief outings in 1979. Takeuchi then went 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 1980, and he had a 3-5 record with a 3.50 ERA in 41 appearances in 1981. He tied Akio Saito, Tetsuo Nishii and Hiroaki Mizutani for 7th in appearances in 1981. Takeuchi notched a save with a 4.67 ERA in 1982, then he announced his retirement in 1983.

Overall, Takeuchi was 28-38 with 5 saves a 4.41 ERA, struck out 318 and pitched 709 2/3 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
