Biographical Information

Hideo Okubo played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Okubo signed with the Kokutetsu Swallows in 1952, and he went 12-for-76 in 1953. He went 9-for-56 in 1954, and he won the competition with Reijiro Watanabe for the starting shortstop spot in 1955. Okubo hit .206/.268/.304 with 21 steals in 117 games that season, and he tied Kenjiro Tamiya for 8th in steals in the Central League. He struggled again as his batting line was .182/.235/.243 in 1956, and he recorded a .215/.250/.270 batting line in 1957. Watanabe took the starting spot in 1958, so Okubo only went 8-for-42 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Okubo hit .195/.245/.268 with 189 hits and 7 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
