Biographical Information[edit]

Hideaki Homoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 13 years.

Homoto signed with the Chunichi Dragons in 1956 as a pitcher, and he pitched 4 shutout innings in his first season. He had a 4.09 ERA in 6 games in 1957, and he was turned into an outfielder. Homoto went 7-for-42 in 1958, and he had a .267/.286/.376 batting line in 1959. He then played 94 games with a .242/.288/.273 batting line in 1960, and he hit .249/.289/.339 in 96 games in 1961. Homoto got more than 200 at-bats in a season for the only time in his career in 1962, but his batting line fell to .183/.233/.260. He bounced back and batted .272/.339/.348 in 1963, and he recorded a .223/.261/.320 batting line in 1964. Homoto then played 96 games with a .270/.297/.304 batting line in 1965, and he hit .258/.318/.268 in 1966. He went 24-for-87 in 1967, and he announced his retirement after he had a 2-for-31 record in 1988. He later managed Chunichi's minor league team in 1983, and he was their batting coach for the top team in 1985.

Overall, Homoto hit .239/.282/.306 with 336 hits and 13 homers in 13 seasons in NPB.
