Biographical Information[edit]

Hayato Aoki pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Aoki was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 6th round of the 1999 NPB draft, and he had a 2.60 ERA in 17 relief outings in his first season. He had a 2.96 ERA in 46 relief outings in 2001, and he pitched 36 games with a 4.66 ERA in 2002. However, Aoki then suffered from injuries, and his ERA was higher than 10 in each of the next three seasons. The Lions traded him to the Hiroshima Carp for Kazuki Fukuchi in 2006, and he pitched 8 2/3 shutout innings for them that season. He notched 15 holds with a 3.00 ERA in 43 appearances in 2007, and he tied Ryuji Yokoyama for 10th in holds in the Central League. Aoki's ERA was 3.27 in 11 games in 2008, and he recorded a 3.80 ERA in 29 relief outings in 2009. He allowed 8 runs in 10 2/3 innings in 2010, and he announced his retirement. Aoki was the minor league pitching coach for the Carp from 2011 to 2019, and he became the pitching coach for the Lions from 2022 to 2024.

Overall, Aoki was 9-6 with 22 holds and a 4.16 ERA, struck out 116 and pitched 232 2/3 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
