Biographical Information[edit]
Hajime Mochizuki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.
Mochizuki was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 4th round of the 1986 NPB draft, but he spent his first five seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only pitched 4 games for the big club in 1990. He recorded a 3.72 ERA in 41 appearances in 1992, and he tied Koichi Morita and Tsuyoshi Yoda for 9th in appearances in the Central League. Mochizuki then had a 3.48 ERA in 48 relief outings in 1993, and he tied Norihiro Akimura and Hiroshi Ishige for 6th in games pitched. His ERA was 4.02 in 49 games in 1994, and he ranked 8th in appearances (tied with Chien-Fu Kuo Lee). However, Mochizuki slumped to a 6.33 ERA in 16 games in 1995, and he only pitched 3 more games before the Carp released him in 1996. The Daiei Hawks picked him up, but he failed to return to the top team in 1997 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Mochizuki was 21-19 with a 3.94 ERA, struck out 221 and pitched 317 2/3 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
