Biographical Information[edit]

Norihiro Akimura pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years before he became an umpire.

Akimura signed with the Hiroshima Carp in 1989, and he had a 3.63 ERA in 33 relief outings in 1990. He only pitched 10 games with a 5.29 ERA in 1991, and his ERA was 3.77 in 39 appearances in 1992. Akimura went 6-4 with a 4.32 ERA in 1993, and he was 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA in 27 games in 194. His ERA rose to 7.07 in 12 games in 1995, and the Carp traded him to the Nippon Ham Fighters for cash. He allowed 4 runs in 5 innings in 1996, and he announced his retirement in 1997. Akimura later became an umpire of the Pacific League in 1999. Akimura worked 4 All-Star Games (2003, 2009, 2016, 2021) and 3 Nippon Series (2003, 2013, 2017).

Overall, Akimura was 9-11 with a 4.37 ERA, struck out 212 and pitched 263 2/3 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
