He was originally taken by the Seattle Mariners in the 29th round of the 1985 amateur draft, was signed by scout Bill Kearns, and began his pro career that year. Perhaps his best season was 1986, when he hit .272/.338/.410 with 10 home runs and 68 RBI in 127 games for the Salinas Spurs. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 1989, hitting .282/.329/.389 with 1 home run and 40 RBI in 96 games for the Calgary Cannons; he hit .272/.320/.373 on the year as a whole. He reached double digit home run totals again in 1992, when he hit 11 home runs between two teams. He moved from the Mariners to the Montreal Expos system partway through the 1990 campaign.
Overall, Fulton hit .245/.310/.345 with 35 home runs and 323 RBI in 821 games over 9 seasons. In 210 Triple-A games, he hit .253/.310/.356 with 7 home runs and 73 RBI.
He served as hitting coach for the Harrisburg Senators in 1993.
