Biographical Information[edit]
Gordon Lewis was a baseball player and coach from Highland, WI, who starred as a pitcher and outfielder at University of Wisconsin at Madison from 1903 to 1905. After college he spent five years in professional baseball, and his minor league career included time with the Columbus Foxes.[1][2]
During his playing years, Lewis also moved into college coaching. By February 1909, he had been hired to coach baseball at University of Georgia.[3] He returned to University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1911 as a physical education instructor and baseball coach.[1] In March 1920 he was the baseball coach at University of Alabama, and later that season he guided Alabama to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship.[4][5]
