Biographical Information[edit]

Gerd Müller played in the Bundesliga and for the German national team.

He played for Germany in the 1994 and 1995 B-Level European Junior Championships; when they swept the latter event, he was 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA and hit .450/.656/.600 with 16 runs and 11 RBI in 6 games. He was named the best junior pitcher in Germany in 1994. Debuting with the 1996 Ladenburg Romans, the teenager hit .243/.282/.243. Moving to the Mannheim Tornados in 1997, the outfielder hit .327/.485/.481 and fielded .976; in an aluminum bat league, he did not make the leaderboards. The next year, he drove in 27 runs in 25 games, batting .333/.421/.538; he fielded .952 and was 2-0 with a 9.23 ERA. He allowed one unearned run in 3 innings in 1999 (getting a save), fielding .968 and producing at a .490/.557/.800 clip with 44 runs and 30 RBI in 28 games. He was 8th in the Bundesliga-1 south in average, 7th in homers (5), tied for 7th in RBI, first in hits (49, one ahead of Edward Martinez), 4th in doubles (12), tied for 2nd in triples (2), tied for 2nd in runs, 8th in slugging, 9th in OBP, 9th in OPS and 5th in steals (13). He did even better in the playoffs at .542/.577/1.208 with 13 runs in 6 contests, going deep 3 times. Playing regularly for Germany at the 1999 European Championship, he hit .318/.348/.409 and handled 10 chances error-free. His 7 hits were one behind team leader Ole Drews and his 3 runs were one shy of the German pacesetter, Andreas Gienger.

Müller moved to the Bonn Capitals in 2000 and his batting line fell to .333/.469/.413; he tied for 7th in the Bundesliga-1 north with 18 walks. In '01, he remained steady despite the transition to wood bats, batting .333/.477/.362 and was 10th in OBP. During 2002, he was 3 for 9 with a walk, 2 HBP, a run and a RBI. The next summer, he returned to Mannheim. He fielded .960, mostly in right field, and hit .311/.402/.459 with 27 runs in 24 games. He tied Janusz Radicke for 7th in runs. As a 1B/OF in 2004, he fielded .987 but fell to .228/.333/.248 at the plate to end his Bundesliga-1 career. He had batted .333/.439/.461 in the Bundesliga-1 regular seasons for his career.
