Biographical Information[edit]

Garett Claypool pitched in the Philadelphia Phillies system from 2010 to 2012, peaking at High-A.

He was drafted twice. Initially, he was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 32nd round of the 2009 amateur draft, one pick after infielder Luke Voit, but he opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Phillies in the 11th round of the 2010 amateur draft, one pick ahead of outfielder Joc Pederson. He was signed by scout Shane Bowers.

In 2010, his first year, he went 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA in 12 games (4 starts) for the Williamsport Crosscutters, striking out 45 in 34 innings of work. In 2011, he went 5-7 with a 3.47 ERA in 27 games (23 starts) for the Lakewood BlueClaws, striking out 151 in 137 1/3 innings. He led the South Atlantic League in strikeouts that year, 21 ahead of Spencer Arroyo and Roman Mendez, who both had 130. He was also a Mid-Season All-Star that year. In 2012, his final campaign, he went 3-2 with a 7.09 ERA in 22 games (1 start) between the GCL Phillies and Clearwater Threshers. In 39 1/3 innings, he had 46 Ks.

Overall, Claypool went 11-12 with a 4.10 ERA in 61 games (28 starts). In 210 2/3 innings, he allowed 182 hits and 79 walks (1.239 WHIP), while striking out 242 batters (10.3 K/9 IP).
