Team History[edit]
The GCL Rays made their Gulf Coast League debut in 2009 (the Tampa Bay club had fielded the GCL Devil Rays from 1996-1998 prior to their name change). Under manager Joe Alvarez, they were only 19-36, last in the South and ahead of only the GCL Astros in the 16-team league. Outscored 247-165, they hit only .211/.274/.275 as a team with 6 home runs in 55 games for the league's most anemic offense. They had no All-Stars or league leaders.
