Biographical Information[edit]
Frederick Pilch served as the first club president for the Americus of Newark; announced by The Newark Daily Advisor on August 8, 1865. He was a pitcher for the team. Outside of baseball he was a volunteer firefighter and was with the Union Army in the Civil War, serving in the 1st and 27th NJ Infantry. He published a book of poems in 1882 called Homespun Verses.
