Biographical Information[edit]
Freddvil Chévez has played in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.
He was signed by Tampa Bay Rays scout Daniel Santana. [1] He hit .221/.312/.323 as the main first baseman for the 2017 DSL Rays 2 and .214/.283/.329 the next year. In 2019, he played for both the DSL Rays 2 (.331/.412/.466, 32 RBI in 37 G) and the GCL Rays (.245/.265/.286 in 26 G). The 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19. In '21, he batted .292/.355/.425 for the FCL Rays.
After an excellent winter in Nicaragua (.356/.392/.576), he eked out a .157/.214/.222 line for the 2022 Charleston RiverDogs to end his time in the Rays chain. He had two more solid winter (.273/.305/.473 then .337/.420/.523). He was 6-for-22 with a walk and a double for the 2024 Caliente de Durango in Mexico. He then was a late addition to Nicaragua's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, when Cheslor Cuthbert got hurt. [2] As a late addition, he saw little action. Batting for José Orozco against South Africa, he grounded out against Justin Erasmus. Pinch-hitting for Ronald Rivera his other game, he struck out facing Spain's Yeudy García. Nicaragua moved on to the 2026 World Baseball Classic. [3]
