Biographical Information[edit]
Fred Swanton managed the Santa Cruz Sand Crabs of the California League in 1909, leading them to a 62-36 record before the team disbanded, due to Swanton's retirement,[1] during the second half. Baseball Reference also lists him as a manager of the Santa Cruz Beachcombers in 1898; however, other sources list the manager as Oscar Tuttle.
He was a notable businessman on the West Coast, one who helped transform Santa Cruz into a bustling beach resort city. He served as Mayor of Santa Cruz from 1927 to 1933. Swanton, CA is named after him.
