Biographical Information[edit]

Frank Madigan was an infielder, primarily a third baseman, who played in the minor leagues from 1885 to 1890. A life-long resident of Oswego, NY, he played locally before being invited to join Oswego's club when they joined the New York State League in 1885[1]. Late in 1885 he also played with a club in Guelph, ON[2]. The next two years Oswego fielded a team in the International League, but Madigan primarily played in Kingston, NY in the 1886 Hudson River League[3] and Rutland, VT in the 1887 Northeastern League[4]. In 1888 he played with the Portsmouth, NH club that played in both the New England League and New England Inter State League. In 1890, Madigan was the regular third baseman for the pennant-winning Troy club in the New York State League, where he hit .259[5]. After his playing days, Madigan ran a restaurant/saloon in Oswego that was a hub for the local baseball scene, which included Madigan's friend, major-leaguer Dad Clarke[6].
