Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Foster Griffin was the 28th overall pick in the 2014 amateur draft, taken by the Kansas City Royals; that made him the first pick of the supplemental first round. The scout was Jim Buckley. His signing bonus was $1.925 million. In his first pro year, he was 0-2 with a 3.21 ERA in 11 starts for the Burlington Royals. Going into 2015, Baseball America ranked him the #7 prospect in the Royals chain. He was 4-6 with a 5.44 ERA in 22 starts for the Lexington Legends that year. He was rated the #9 prospect in the club's system going into 2016.
He was named to the United States team for the 2017 Futures Game.
After reaching the majors with the Royals in 2020 and playing with the Royals and Toronto Blue Jays in 2022, he moved to Japan in 2023. He pitched three seasons for the Yomiuri Giants, going 6-5, 6-4 and 6-2 from 2023 to 2025. His ERAs over that span were also very good, at 2.75, 3.01 and 1.62. That peeked the interest of major league teams to give him a second look and on December 16, 2025, he signed as a free agent with the Washington Nationals.
