Biographical Information[edit]

Eric Ackerman played professionally from 2002 to 2010, peaking at High-A. He spent four-and-a-half years with the independent Lancaster Barnstormers, becoming a familiar face there.

He was taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 16th round of the 2002 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Dana Eveland, and began his career that year. He was a high-ERA hurler, with respective ERAs of 5.71, 4.69, 4.65, 5.54, 4.60, 4.35, 5.07, 4.19 and 6.31. Nevertheless, he didn't have his first losing season until his seventh campaign, when he went 5-7 for the Barnstormers; that was the only losing season of his career. In 2003, he tied Juan Sandoval for the Midwest League lead in earned runs allowed with 78. He was second with 87 runs allowed, behind Sandoval's 97.

In the Royals system, he went 22-15 with a 4.98 ERA in 108 games (44 starts). In indy ball, he was 28-28 with a 4.71 ERA in 176 games (49 starts).
