He was signed by Texas Rangers scouts Rafic Saab and Mike Daly in May 2013. [2] In his pro debut, he was 0-1 with a 1.20 ERA in five games for the 2013 DSL Rangers, then had two playoff appearances, winning one. [3] Coming stateside, he was 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA for the '14 AZL Rangers, whiffing 37 in 32 1/3 IP. With the 2015 Spokane Indians, he had a 4-5, 5.33 record. He split 2016 between the Hickory Crawdads (0-6, 3.36 in 19 G) and Frisco RoughRiders (4.32 ERA in 5 G). In the winter, he was 4-4 with a 3.68 ERA for the Caribes de Anzoátegui. He tied for 8th in the Venezuelan League in wins.

In 2017, he pitched for Hickory (2-1, 1.69 in 3 G) and the Down East Wood Ducks (3-10, 4.19 in 20 G). He tied Scott Blewett and Ofelky Peralta for 4th in the Carolina League in losses. He was 9th in the Rangers chain with 105 K but was tied for second in losses, one behind Collin Wiles. In 2018, he was 5-11 with a 4.01 ERA for the Wood Ducks. He was 4th among Texas farmhands with 110 strikeouts, between Tyler Phillips and Yohander Méndez, but tied Tyree Thompson for the most defeats. Only Jake Thompson lost more games in the Carolina League that year, while Emerson was 10th in strikeouts (between Zach Plesac and Tanner Tully).

Martínez had a strong winter for the Caribes, going 5-1 with a 2.25 ERA out of the bullpen. He was one win shy of LVBP leaders Williams Pérez and Omar Bencomo Jr. He was 3-2 with a 4.37 ERA for the 2019 RoughRiders but missed time with injuries and had a brief rehab stint with the AZL Rangers. [4] He was 3-0 with two saves and a 2.77 ERA for the Auckland Tuatara in the 2019-2020 Australian Baseball League.

His next US stint came with the 2021 Cleburne Railroaders, making eight appearances with a 1-0, 3.86 record. He next surfaced in 2023-2024 with the Caribes, going 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA. He fell to 0-5, 7.84 for them the next winter, tying Osmer Morales and Miguel Romero for the loss lead. He rebounded to 5-1, 4.56 in 2025-2026, tying for the lead in wins this time. He then made the Colombian national team roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, one of five Venezuelans on the team. [5]
