The Detroit Tigers signed Elys Escobar as an international free agent from Venezuela in 2013. He played catcher and some first base in the Tigers organization from 2014-2018. Escobar spent his final minor league season in the Pittsburgh Pirates system. Overall, he batted .263 with an OBP of .340 and a slugging percentage of .355 in 201 games.
Escobar switched to coaching with the FCL Pirates Black in 2021 and FCL Pirates in 2022. According to his LinkedIn profile, Escobar continued as a Pirates coach from 2023-2025, presumably at one of the Pirates' complex facilities.[1] He was not listed on the team's roster for any of those years. This 2025 image identifies him as the FCL Pirates third base coach in a game against the FCL Orioles.[2] He was hitting coach of the FCL Pirates in 2026.
