Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Eiberson Castellano recorded a save in his major league debut for the Colorado Rockies on June 14, 2026, but it came under unusual circumstances. The lead he had to protect that day was never really in doubt as he entered the game with an 18-9 lead, and Colorado added another five runs in their next turn at bat. However, he did fulfill one of the conditions for earning a save, which was to pitch the final three innings of a win without having relinquished the lead, which he did as he did not give up a run in his three innings of work. Colorado's 23-9 win over The Athletics set a franchise record for most runs in a game. The game was played at Las Vegas Ballpark in Las Vegas, NV, normally the home of the AAA Las Vegas Aviators of the Pacific Coast League, but the venue was not familiar to him as he had only pitched one game in AAA at that point. He had gone 4-2, 2.72 in 10 starts for the AA Hartford Yard Goats before making one relief outing for the Albuquerque Isotopes of the PCL prior to his call-up. That one game, a six-inning stint in which he gave up no runs on just one hit, was impressive enough for him to be named the circuit's Pitcher of the Week.

Eiberson was originally signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an international amateur free agent on July 2, 2018. He pitched in the Phillies system until the end of the 2025 season, reaching AA with the Reading Fightin Phils in 2024, when he was a starter, and pitching there again as a reliever in 2025. Following the 2024 season, the Minnesota Twins had taken him in the 2024 Rule V Draft, but had returned him to the Phils when he failed to make the team in spring training in 2025. He became a free agent after that season and signed with Colorado.
