Edison Barrios had pitched in the minor leagues and in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Barrios was first signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he went 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA for the VSL Pirates in 2006. He was 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 2007, and he went 7-1 with a 1.67 ERA in 2008. Barrios then had a 7.84 ERA in 6 appearances for the Tiburones de La Guaira in 2009, and he pitched 2 games with a 5.40 ERA in 2010. The Kobe Suns of the Kansai Independent League signed him in 2011, and Barrios had a 1.66 ERA in the first half of the season. Thus, he earned a development contract from the Softbank Hawks, and he went 2-1 with a 7.50 ERA in the NPB Farm Leagues. Barrios had a 3.52 ERA in 3 games in the winter for the Tiburones, but he missed most of the 2012 season as he underwent Tommy John surgery.
Returning in 2013, Barrios made his NPB debut on August 18. He got the win against the Nippon Ham Fighters, and he collected another win in his second game against the Seibu Lions. Barrios was the first development player to get a win in his first two games in NPB history. He ended up 2-1 with a 4.61 ERA in '13 season, but he only pitched pitched 3 games with a 3.38 ERA in 2014 due to shoulder injury. He then tied Kyuji Fujikawa's NPB record as he collected a hold in 17 consecutive games in 2018, and he was voted into the 2018 NPB All-Star Game; he withdrew due to injuries. Barrios ended up getting 20 holds with a 3.18 ERA in 30 appearances, and he ranked 7th in holds in the Pacific League (tied with Rhiner Cruz and Keisuke Tanimoto.
Barrios struggled in 2016 as his ERA was 7.82 in 11 games, and the Hawks released him. He then pitched for the Toyama GRN Thunderbirds in 2017, and the Yokohama BayStars signed him. He was 2-5 with a 3.33 ERA in 2018, but he only pitched 3 games with a 4.30 ERA in 2019. Barrios signed with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in 2020, but he didn't pitched due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and his professional career ended.
Overall, Barrios was 5-12 with a 3.96 ERA and 23 holds, struck out 111 and pitched 131 2/3 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
