Biographical Information[edit]

Durward Stowe was an outfielder who played for the Greenville Greenies of the Coastal Plain League in 1937 and 1938. He was born on July 24, 1912 in Ashwood, NC.[1] Before beginning his professional career, he attended Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College in 1937.[2]

Stowe was a native of Ashwood, North Carolina, and he graduated from Hopewell High School in Hopewell, VA, where he earned all-state honors in football and basketball.[3] He was stationed in the Pacific in the navy during World War II.[4] He later served as head baseball coach at Middle Tennessee State College.[5] He died on April 6, 1994 in Clarksville, TN.[6]

His name is sometimes reported as Durwood in contemporary articles, although Durward is significantly more prevalent.
