Biographical Information[edit]

Second baseman Domingo Mota played in the minor leagues from 1990 to 1995, peaking at Double-A.

He was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 31st round of the 1990 amateur draft and began his pro career that year. He started off well, slashing .343/.453/.432 with 23 stolen bases, 36 walks and just 19 strikeouts in 61 games for the GCL Dodgers. He led the league in hits (73) and times caught stealing (15). He tied Amador Arias for the lead in runs with 46 and Paul Rappoli and Stan Robertson for the lead in HBPs with 8. He tied Jay Andrews and Timothy Green-Shornock for second in intentional walks (3), behind Jamie Dismuke's 5. He also tied Claudio Ozoria for second in total bases (92), behind Rondell White's 96. He lost the batting title by .001 to Tom Houk. He joined White and Raul Robinson as the league's All-Star outfielders. That was his high-water mark as he never hit above .275 after that. In 1991, he hit .275/.351/.392 with 8 homers, 44 RBI and 37 steals in 104 games for the Bakersfield Dodgers. On December 11, he was traded with outfielder Chris Gwynn to the Kansas City Royals for first baseman Todd Benzinger. He spent two seasons in the Royals system, stealing 14 and 10 bases, respectively, before wrapping up his career in the Cincinnati Reds chain in 1995.

Overall, Mota hit .266/.330/.356 with 17 home runs, 134 RBI and 90 steals in 407 games over 6 seasons.

He comes from a big baseball family. He is the son of Manny Mota. His brothers are Andy Mota, Gary Mota, Jose Mota and Tony Mota. His cousin is Jose Baez.
