North Carolina native Dick Mauney spent five seasons in professional baseball from 1943 to 1947. Dick debuted with the Philadelphia Phillies on June 13, 1945. From this date until June 22, 1947, his final with the Major League club, he made 53 appearances. Mauney ended his big league career with a 12-14 record and a 2.99 ERA.
Mauney would also spend parts of four seasons (1943-1945 and 1947) in the minor leagues, all in the Southern Association. Dick had his best year in 1944 with the Atlanta Crackers, posting a 16-7 record and a 4.05 ERA. In his four seasons in the minors, he built a 27-17 record in 67 games with a 3.90 ERA.
