Biographical Information[edit]

Dean Bailey was a longtime college coach.

Bailey lettered in football, basketball, and baseball in college, and was named captain of all three teams as a senior. He graduated from East Tennessee in 1934, and earned a master's degree from Columbia in 1938. After college he coached at Maryville High School (1934-1935) and Lenoir City High School (1936-1941). Bailey also found time to play infield in the Appalachian League in 1937, 1939-1940. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served 5 years. He then worked in the Veterans Administration in Nashville, TN. [1] [2]

Bailey was hired in the 1948-1949 school year by Lincoln Memorial University to be Athletics Director, basketball coach and baseball coach. He coached basketball through 1975 and baseball through 1980. On the diamond, his teams went 449-237 and 10 conference championships. He led the Railsplitters to the 1957 NAIA College World Series, where they finished 6th.
