Darrion Richards has played in the Bundesliga and for the German national team.
Debuting in 2022, he was 4 for 17 with 4 walks, 5 runs and 2 RBI for the Paderborn Untouchables. [1] At the 2022 U18 European Championship, he hit .348/.423/.478 with 8 runs in 8 games, tying for 5th in the event in runs. [2] In '23, he was a regular, batting .321/.411/.410 with 21 runs in 24 games, fielding .915. He was 10th in the northern Bundesliga-1 in runs and tied Devon Ramirez for 2nd in HBP (11, 2 behind Maurice Bendrien). He scored 14 runs in 12 playoff games, hitting .304/.418/.370. [3] He was 4-for-13 with 3 steals and a run in the 2023 European Champions Cup, one swipe behind co-leaders Joris Bert and Milan Prokop. [4]
In 2024, he hit .344/.429/.410, fielding .938 in the regular season, then was at .300/.340/.380 and .978 in the postseason. He was 4th with 18 steals (between Eric Brenk and Danny Lankhorst) and 6th with 37 assists. [5] In the 2024 U18 European Championship, he produced at a .421/.577/.526 clip with 6 walks, 5 steals in 6 tries and 8 runs in 7 contests to help Germany finish second. He tied for 8th in OBP, tied for 5th in swipes and was 7th with 13 assists. [6]
Moving to the Hamburg Stealers, he slashed .308/.363/.433 in 2025 with 21 runs in 24 games, but fielded .887. In the playoffs, he was 3 for 16 with two walks, two runs and a RBI, fielding .958. He was 4th in assists (55, between Eric Brenk and Petey Kiefer) but led with 11 errors. [7] In the 2025 U23 European Championship, he stole four bases in five attempts and hit .350/.481/.400, scoring 5 runs in 5 games. Moving from short to the outfield, he handled 8 putouts error-free. He led in steals. [8] He was the main center fielder for Germany in the 2025 European Championship. In his first game for the senior national team, he batted 9th against the Czech Republic. He grounded out against Tomáš Ondra his first time up but later singled off Ryan Johnson. In the 5th/6th place game, his triple off Britain's Owen Wild was the last hit in a 2-0 win. He batted .294/.333/.412 with one run in six games, stealing two bases in three tries, and handling 13 putouts. [9]
