Biographical Information[edit]

Darlyn Rodríguez debuted for the Honduran national team at age 19, at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Central American Qualifier. He struck out 8 in his debut, allowing four hits, four walks and one run in five to beat Diego Amado and Guatemala; José Núñez took over for him in the 6th. His other outing did not go as well; called on to face the powerful Nicaraguan national team in the title game, he allowed six runs in three innings in a loss to Ronald Medrano. He was among the event leaders in starts (tying the more experienced Alejandro Amézquita, Pablo Barquero, Nelson Alfaro and Medrano for the lead), innings (tied Juan Girón Balladarez and Miguel Montano for 5th), hits allowed (10, tied Barquero for second behind Amézquita), runs allowed (tied Denis Díaz for 3rd), walks (5, tied for 4th) and whiffs (13, 4th, between Alfaro and Fidencio Flores). In the 2023 Pan American Games Qualifier, the teenager went four shutout (5 H, 4 BB, 7 K) but was matched by Peru's Ken Ishihara and Eduardo Diaz lost it in relief. He was roughed up by Canada (2 H, 2 BB, 5 R, 3 ER in 1/3 IP) in between Guillermo Pineda and Denis Díaz. He tied for 6th in appearances, tied Edgar Paredes for 4th with 5 runs allowed, was second in walks (one behind Marco Castellano) and tied Federico Robles for third in strikeouts. [2]
