Biographical Information[edit]

Dante Powell was a Baseball America Freshman All-American selection at California State-Fullerton in 1992, hitting .307. Powell established new school and conference records with 9 triples. Powell also was a first team All-Big West Conference choice in 1992. Powell was a supplemental first round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1991 amateur draft before opting for college.

Powell played for Team USA in 1993. He struggled, hitting .173, the lowest mark on the club. He was among the team leaders in runs (30, 4th), homers (5, 2nd to Todd Walker) and steals (19, 1st). He batted only .205/.286/.227 in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup but he did steal four bases in five tries, tying Takayuki Takabayashi and Akihiro Togo for third in the event, one behind co-leaders Tatsuya Ide and Toshihisa Nishi.
