Biographical Information[edit]
Daniel Schneemann appeared at six different positions in his first six major league games after being called up by he Cleveland Guardians in June of 2024. In order, these were second base, shortstop, center field, left field, third base and right field. He also started games at all of these except left field within his first nine games, making him a true utility player. He ended up playing in 73 games that first season, hitting .218 with 5 homers and 22 RBIs. His OPS+ was 91 and he continued to be used just about everywhere, having more than ten games at five different spots, and appearances at three others, including DH. In the postseason, he appeared in three games and went 0 for 7 in the Guardians' loss to the New York Yankees in the ALCS, after not being on the roster for the first two rounds.
On May 3, 2025, he had the game of a lifetime against the Toronto Blue Jays. He put the Guardians on the scoreboard with a solo homer off Chad Green in the 8th inning, cutting Toronto's lead to 3-1, then in the 9th he came up with two outs and the bases loaded and launched a grand slam off Yimi Garcia. That gave Cleveland a 5-3 lead, which was also the final score. He thus accounted for all five of his team's runs, and half of its total of four hits. Typically, he started the game at second base, moved to third base in the 8th, and then returned to second in the 9th.
His last name means "Snowman" in German.
