Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Dan Moylan played in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 2000 to 2006, peaking briefly (17 at-bats) at Triple-A.
He was taken by the Cardinals in the 8th round of the 2000 amateur draft, the same round as future stars Dontrelle Willis and Brandon Webb. He didn't have much power, finishing with 11 home runs in 1,358 at-bats over 7 seasons, or speed, finishing with 20 steals, however he could draw a walk, posting respective on-base percentages of .426, .424, .415, .377, .389, an anomalous .315 and .433 for his career. He only struck out more than 40 times once, when he had 54 Ks for the Tennessee Smokies in 2004. That was also the only year he had more strikeouts than walks (48). In his only taste of Triple-A in 2005, he had 1 hit in 17 at-bats for the Memphis Redbirds, for a .059 average. He redeemed himself in 2006, his final campaign, batting .301/.433/.370 in 73 ABs between two clubs.
Overall, Moylan hit .271/.393/.334 with 11 home runs, 156 RBI, 263 walks and 221 Ks in 450 games. He averaged one home run every 123 at-bats. He didn't appear on many leaderboards throughout his career, however he was second in the New York-Penn League in double plays grounded into with 11, behind Andy Cannizaro's 15.
