Catcher Collin Price was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 6th round of the 2022 amateur draft from Mercer University where he was originally a multi-position player. he settled into catching full-time during his junior year in 2021 and in 2022 hit 18 homers and drove in 58 runs in as many games.
He began his pro career in 2022 with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers of the Carolina League, where he hit .290 in 19 games, then spent all of 2023 with the Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League. He batted just .198 in 58 games, however, which resulted in his starting 2024 with the same team. He hit .250 in 17 games before receiving a promotion to the AA Corpus Christi Hooks on May 7th and did not look back. Still, his slash line was .227/.327/.391 with 13 homers and 40 RBIs in 100 games. He spent all of 2025 in AAA with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, where he hit .235 with 18 homers and 60 RBIs in 111 games.
He was back with Sugar Land at the start of 2026 and after 47 games was hitting his customary .235, with 10 homers and 26 RBIs. On June 4th, he was called up to Houston as back-up C César Salazar was designated for assignment. He was immediately inserted in the starting line-up against the Pittsburgh Pirates, batting 8th, and went 0 for 3 with a walk and two strikeouts in a 5-1 loss.
