The Texas Rangers drafted Cody Buckel in the 2nd round of the 2010 Amateur Draft out of high school. Buckel pitched in their minor league system from 2010-2016. He spent 2017 in the Los Angeles Angels organization to complete his playing career. Buckel pitched at the AA level at several points during his playing days. In his eight minor league seasons, Buckel had a 24-31 record with an ERA of 4.03. He was a starter in about half of his games.
Buckel joined the Seattle Mariners organization in 2018 in a dual role. He was listed as an organization pitching coach while serving as a pitching coach for the AZL Mariners. At the end of 2018, the Mariners promoted him to Pitching Strategist for the 2019 season.
Sometime after his promotion, the Cleveland Indians hired Buckel away from the Mariners to work as their Pitching Resource Coordinator. After one year in this position, he was named the Indians' Assistant Director of Player Development, a role he repeated in 2021. Buckel returned to working with a single team in 2022 when the now Cleveland Guardians assigned him to the Columbus Clippers as a Pitching Strategist. He continued this role in 2023. Buckel was a pitching coach for the Akron RubberDucks in 2024 and Columbus Clippers in 2025.
