Biographical Information[edit]
Clint Lawrence pitched in the minor leagues and for Team Canada.
Lawrence was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 52nd round of the 1994 Amateur Draft out of high school, but he didn't sign. He then signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1995 after a year of junior college, and he went 1-5 with a 4.57 ERA for the GCL Blue Jays that season. Lawrence was 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA for the St. Catharines Stompers in 1996, and his ERA was 1.98 in 6 games for the Hagerstown Suns. He then had a 13-10 record with a 3.54 ERA for the Suns in 1997. He was 6th in the South Atlantic League in wins and tied Shawn Chacón for 8th in K (149). He had the most victories by a Jays farmhand, one ahead of Jason Stevenson and trailed only John Bale and Gary Glover in strikeouts.
He was 6-3 with a 4.91 ERA for the Dunedin Blue Jays in 1998. Lawrence struggled with the AA Knoxville Smokies in '98 as his ERA was 6.84 in 7 starts, then he had a 1-2 record with a 7.61 ERA in Dunedin in 1999. He represented Canada in the 1999 Pan American Games. He didn't allow an earned run in three innings despite walking six. [1] Canada won Bronze, its first baseball medal in a Pan American Games. Lawrence was 3-3 with a 5.30 ERA for the Smokies in 2000, and his ERA was 6.23 in 5 appearances for the independent Adirondack Lumberjacks in 2001. That was his last season.
Overall, Lawrence was 32-28 with a 4.20 ERA, struck out 360 and pitched 501 1/3 innings in 7 seasons in the minor leagues.
