Claury Scatliffe was a key player on the first British women's national baseball team.
Scatliffe played softball for the British Virgin Islands in the 2017 Pan American Championship. Having played baseball as a kid, she thought she would only be able to play softball as an adult due to being female. That changed when she found out about the 2022 European Women's Championship from fellow British Virgin Islanders Kennard Dawson, Nateshon Thomas and Bria Smith. The former two were among the four British Virgin Islands to play for Britain's male national team (along with Shamoy Christopher and Demoi Hodge) while Smith was an official with the British Virgin Islands Softball Association . She contacted the British team, who asked her for a tryout video; she wound up making the squad alongside another British Virgin Islander, Darier Malone.
When Britain played their first European Women's Championship game, Scatliffe had a prominent role as both their starting pitcher and cleanup hitter. She drew a first-inning walk from the Czech Republic's Karolína Blažková to force in Laura Hirai; it was Britain's first RBI. On the mound, she ran into trouble early when Vendulka Vaněčková reached on an error, Blažková walked, Tereza Šustrová was hit and Kristýna El Ghannam hit into a two-run error. Šustrová was picked off then Scatliffe recovered to strike out Tereza Stejspalová and Miluška Šprdlíková. With a 13-4 lead after two and a half, she was relieved by Kirstie Wright but stayed in the game to play right field. She finished with five RBI, two of them on the team's first triple, off Denisa Józsová. In Britain's third game, they faced host and defending champion France and again turned to Scatliffe. She scored twice and allowed six runs in five, Wright relieving her with a 12-6 lead in the 6th but the upset bid fell shy as France rallied for 7 runs off the bullpen. For the tournament, she had hit .300/.429/.700 with two triples, three walks, four runs and six RBI. She had 9 K and 9 BB in 7 IP, allowing 4 hits and 10 runs (6 earned). She had two assists in the field and no errors. She was among the tourney leaders in triples (1st), RBI (tied for first with Amy Trask, Anouk Vergunst and Kateřina Maříková), walks (tied for 10th), slugging (3rd, after Emma Patry and Blažková), ERA (6th, between Merle Langevoord and Blažková), games pitched (tied for 2nd, one behind Cassandra Vigneau), starts on the mound (1st, 2), innings (3rd, after Vigneau and Camille Foucher), runs allowed (the most, one ahead of Foucher, Wright and Józsová), earned runs (tied for 3rd behind Józsová and Leonie Pauthe), walks issued (3rd, after Blažková and Wright) and batters fanned (tied Foucher for first).
