Julius Edward Meriwether

Biographical Information[edit]

Chuck Meriwether was a first baseman in college. After he graduated, he became an umpire. He was in the 1979 Midwest League, 1980-1981 Eastern League, 1982-1985 Pacific Coast League and 1986-1992 American Association.

He appeared in a major league game for the first time in the American League in 1987 and gradually worked more games each year before becoming a full-time major league umpire in 1992. He was confirmed as a permanent member of the AL staff in 1993. He worked the 1996 All-Star Game, 2002 All-Star Game, 2003 NLCS, 2004 World Series, 2006 ALCS and 2007 World Series. He retired after the 2009 season, having worked over 2,500 games.
