Biographical Information

Infielder Chris Martin played professionally from 1990 to 1999. He spent five full seasons at Triple-A, totaling about 55 percent of his career games, but never ascended to the majors.

He was drafted multiple times. He was taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 31st round of the 1986 amateur draft, one pick after infielder Ever Magallanes, but opted not to sign. He was next taken by the New York Yankees in the 26th round of the 1989 amateur draft, but again opted not to sign. He finally signed after being taken by the Montreal Expos in the 2nd round (53rd overall) of the 1990 amateur draft, one pick after catcher Jayhawk Owens. He spent the majority of his career at either Double-A or Triple-A, reaching the latter level for the first time in 1994. He hit .238/.303/.326 in 113 games for the Ottawa Lynx in his first season at that level. From 1995 to 1999, he stole 30, 25, 23, 19 and 14 bases each year, respectively. He was second in the 1995 International League in steals, behind Jim Buccheri's 44. He joined the Tampa Bay Devil Rays system in 1997, staying in their organization for the rest of his career.

Overall, Martin hit .258/.337/.366 with 61 homers, 437 RBI and 148 steals in 1,104 games over 10 seasons. At Triple-A, he hit .259/.335/.335 in 612 games.
