Chenhao Li has pitched for the Chinese national team. In the 2002 World University Championship, he was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA for China. He got the start for China against the Japanese national team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, allowing 2 runs (1 unearned) and one hit in 3 innings in a no-decision in a 18-2 loss. Li was responsible for the unearned run as he made an error and threw a wild pitch that put Tomoya Satozaki into scoring position. In the 2008 Olympics, he tossed over 5 scoreless innings against the South Korean national team before a rain delay forced him from the game. In his second game, he allowed two runs in almost 5 to Team USA in front of the home crowd and took the loss against Jake Arrieta; the US scored 7 runs in the 4 1/3 IP his relievers worked. Li finished with a 0-1, 1.80 record, the best on the Chinese staff in Beijing.
Li got the start against Japan again in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He matched Yu Darvish with two scoreless innings but faded in the third, allowing 3 runs. Hiroyuki Nakajima walked and stole second. Norichika Aoki drove in Nakajima with a drive to center. After retiring Atsunori Inaba, Li gave up a 2-run homer to Shuichi Murata. For the 4th inning, he was relieved by Junyi Chen.
