The Charleston Royals, a Class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals began play in the South Atlantic League in 1980. Playing their home games at College Park in Charleston, South Carolina, they won division titles in 1980 and 1984. After the 1984 season, the club changed affiliations and became known as the Charleston Rainbows. Today, the club is called the Charleston RiverDogs.
