Biographical Information[edit]

Carp Wood was a college coach and minor league player.

Wood split 1938 between two Canadian-American League teams, hitting .335 as an outfielder. In 1939, he hit .313/?/.401 for the Butler Yankees, while fielding .946 at second base. He was with the Amsterdam Rugmakers in 1940 and went 4 for 23 for Butler in '41. In 1942, he hit .307/?/.362 for Butler. He finished up his playing career with the 1943 Elmira Pioneers, batting .282 and slugging .327.

Wood coached soccer and baseball at Sampson College for 3 years then was head coach at St. Bonaventure University in 1951-1952. He moved to Ithaca College in 1952 as basketball coach. He eventually also coached baseball at Ithaca in 1966-1978. He took Ithaca to second place in the 1973 Division II College World Series and 1976 Division III College World Series. He took Ithaca to the NCAA Tournament in basketball, baseball and soccer, something no NCAA coach had achieved before.
