Bob Thompson was a three-time MVP of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League and played for Team Canada.

He was 3-3 for St. Lazare as a rookie in 1962. He went 4-3 in '62 and hit .368, 4th in the loop. He fell to .194 for his hometown Virden team in 1964 but fanned 128 in 102 IP; he led the MSBL in games pitched (15), innings and strikeouts. He was 3-2 and hit .269 for St. Lazare in 1965. In 1966, he was 8-1 and hit .266 for Brandon; he led the league in winning percentage and was one shy of the win lead. He went 5-5 for the 1967 Brandon Cloverleafs and batted .246.

In 1968, he tied for the win lead (9-5) and walked only 15 in 88 IP while striking out 101. He also hit .303 and drove in 25, two shy of the lead, in claiming his first MVP title. He batted an even .300 in 1969. In 1970, he posted a 5-4 record. He was with Team Canada in the 1971 Pan American Games and 1971 Amateur World Series. He was 7-2 and hit .298 for Brandon in 1972, leading the league in wins and taking his second MVP award. He fell to 1-3 and .209 in 1973. In '74, he batted .383, 4th in the MSBL then posted a .342 mark in 1975. He was with Canada for the 1975 Pan American Games and 1975 Intercontinental Cup.

Thompson was 2-1 and hit .369 (4th in the league) in 1976. In '77, he hit .313 with a league-high 10 home runs and was 4-1 in being named MVP for the third time. He was 0-1 and hit .175 in 1978.
