Björn Heitmann played in the Bundesliga and for the German national team.

Heitmann's stats prior to 1994 are unavailable online (as of 8/14/25). In 1994, he hit .286/.318/.619 in 22 plate appearances for the 1994 Mannheim Amigos, going 1-2 with a 12.00. The next year, he batted .333/.433/.569 and was 2-1 with a save and a 7.11 ERA. He moved to the Bonn Capitals in '96 and hit .365/.434/.500 then improved to .418/.484/.456 the next year. He was 8th in the Bundesliga-1 north in average, tied for 3rd in HBP (8) and 6th with 139 putouts. Playing for Germany in the 1997 European Championship, he was 2 for 8 with a steal and a RBI.

In 1998, he produced at a .371/.451/.576 clip with 15 doubles, 33 runs and 31 RBI in 40 contests. He was 10th in average, 9th in RBI, tied for 4th in hits (49), tied for 4th in doubles and second with 278 putouts. He switched clubs again in 1999, moving to the Regensburg Legionäre and hitting .400/.456/.550. He tied for 4th with 32 RBI and was the 3rd-hardest batter to strike out, whiffing 8 times. He also was 4-0 with a 5.40 ERA. He batted .395/.466/.605 in 2000, going 2-1 with a 4.22 ERA. He tied for 6th with 10 doubles and was 5th with 119 putouts.

Germany switched from aluminum to wood bats in 2001 and his unadjusted production fell accordingly, to .288/.419/.370. He was 8th with 117 putouts. In 2002, he hit .311/.413/.443 with 24 RBI in 28 games. He tied Robert Gruber for 7th in RBI. He did not appear in the Bunesliga-1 in 2003. In 200, the veteran was at .293/.388/.379 for the Gauting Indians, then hit .268/.354/.375 for them in 2005. That was his last season in Germany's top league, spending one more season in the minors before retiring.
