Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Pettus played with several independent Black baseball teams for 15 seasons in the years preceding and following the establishment of the Negro National League in 1920.[1]
Debuting as a catcher for the Kansas City Giants in 1909, Pettus joined the Chicago Giants in 1910. By 1912, he had transitioned to first base for the New York Lincoln Giants, with whom he would spend parts of six seasons with over the next nine years. Though still active when the NNL was formed in 1920, Pettus never played in the Negro major leagues before he ended his career with the Harrisburg Giants in 1923.
For the seasons for which Seamheads has data available, Pettus batted .318 in 408 documented games. [2]
