Biographical Information[edit]
Biddy Dolan was a 32 year-old first baseman for the first part of the 1914 season, playing for the Indianapolis Hoosiers, champions of the Federal League that season. The Hoosiers opened the season on April 16th in St. Louis with Dolan as the starting first baseman. He collected a first inning RBI single and third inning 3-run home run to pace Indianapolis to a 7-3 win over the Terriers. Dolan had been the only modern era player to record 2+ hits, including a HR and 4+ RBI, in an opening day career debut, until that feat was matched by Jason Heyward on April 5th, 2010, and by Trevor Story on April 4th, 2016.
Dolan is the only major leaguer with the first name "Biddy", although there is a historical figure by the name of "Biddy Dolan" after whom he was perhaps nicknamed.
