Biographical Information[edit]
Bert Newman played for the USA when they won the 1975 Intercontinental Cup. [1] The Chicago Cubs picked him in the 30th round of the 1976 Amateur Draft, and he hit .305/.374/.364 in 38 games for the GCL Cubs in his lone season of pro ball. He stole 15 bases in 19 tries and fielded .942 at 2B. He tied for 9th in the Gulf Coast League in swipes; had he qualified, he would've ranked 5th in average. [2]
