The Berlin Phoenix played in the Bundesliga-1 in 1997-1998, resulting from a temporary merger of the Berlin Challengers, Berlin Sluggers and Berlin Bats. They were 9-18 their first year, with South African Sean Sullivan hitting .397/.530/.667 and going 1-0 with 2 saves and a 0.68 while Wilgen Reyes hit .400/.467/.600. They fell to 9-31 their second year, 1998, with Reyes batting .366/.504/.545 but Sullivan falling to .277/.398/.366 and 1-5, 5.77. On the team both years was German national team hurler Michael de Gelmini.
