Biographical Information[edit]

Ben Mann pitched for the Australian national team.

He pitched for Australia in an exhibition against the 1996 Colorado Silver Bullets. [1] He debuted in the 1996-1997 Australian Baseball League, going 5-12 with a 5.99 ERA for the Gold Coast Cougars; he led the league in losses and tied Bob Nilsson for 4th with 21 appearances. [2] Despite his rocky debut, the big right-hander made Australia's team for the 1997 Intercontinental Cup. He lost to Cuba's Osmani Romero and beat Spain's José Becerra. His 9.72 ERA tied future major leaguer Jeff Williams for the team's highest mark. Australia won Bronze, their best finish to that point. [3]

Mann was 5-2 but with a 6.64 ERA in 1997-1998. [4] He was 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA in the 1998 Baseball World Cup; only Cam Cairncross was lower for the Aussies. He beat Russia and Andrei Bogatyrev. [5] Battling shoulder problems, he was 1-3 with a 7.29 ERA for the Melbourne Reds in 1998-1999, ending his career. [6]
